Artist Statement

Color is a vital part of my practice, I look at how color can change with its application. I use systems to explore mixing and to better understand color in all aspects (visual, physical, and symbolic). Color is unusual, it comes with many different properties and meanings. Color can function visually and physically different in relation to the materials and to itself.

We know that blue + yellow = green, but color has a complexity. Do we understand the relationships the color can create both physically and contextually? I use color as a way to see and represent commonalities and differences in culture. I see color as a connection to culture and to one's own experience, my connection though my mexican culture and one’s own personal experiences.

In my creation process, I use my works to represent the logical and emotional working together. My work consists of meticulous and technical practice, while still letting the hand show through and allowing for personal reactions to be a part of the work. I want my work to express the idea of how one can exist and travel between different ways of thinking.
